Anyone remember a skit they had at a two day assembly about a husband and wife that were new to the truth? An elder had stopped by and the couple was arguing over failings they each had. The wife had found articles on what a husband should be like in the truth. Kind, considerate etc. She wanted her husband to be like that. The audience roared with laughter. Because of course, the wife was extremely exaggerated but also, how many sisters were shaking their heads over expecting a husband to be that way? The men were laughing at the silly wife. The elder was like, how can you expect a person to be that way suddenly? It was more of a scolding than anything. Totally made me angry. I don't even remember his gripe.

You were always reminded in talks and publications, that you were the weaker sex. "A porcelan vase" that could easily break. Was it good old Paul that recomended that a woman would be kept "safe" through childbearing? Otherwise they would be just gadding about and getting into trouble?
I knew of one sister that was married and her husband thought it would be a good idea to sell their nice house and move to Hawaii for a possible job. What is so bad about doing that? Well the job fizzled, Armaggeddon didn't arrive, and they had to move back without much money and start over. She proudly said that she had to obey her husband.
A really nice sister that had been married (husband went thru mid life and ran off with another's elder wife) got remarried to another elder. On a part on the meeting about what was the best thing about the truth, he answered that the best part was that his wife was submisive. Nothing about her kindness or personality, just that she obeyed him and he made the choices.
I always felt conflicted. You were supposed to be happy over being submissive but I was also angry. A strange kind of glory of having to suffer through wrong or stupid decisions by a male. Shrug your shoulders over ineptitude cause they were calling the shots.
The only time I ever had a positive feeling from literature, was a three part article on the women that followed Jesus around. Imagine being in that time and having men consider you to be a natural born liar and untrustworthy. (not much different from the GB's view) So here is Jesus, treating women like something to be valued. I imagine a woman wrote these articles and it still sticks in my mind. There wasn't the usual down talking or qualifying in the articles. But that is the only one like that. How clever the person was in writing the Bible to start out making sure that the women could be blamed for all the miseries on earth. The GB like that idea and rub it in when ever they can.

Family is now reaping what they sowed and they don't like it.
by Gemmel ini resigned from the jw's in my 20's over 30 years ago, i was immediately shunned by my entire family and it's remained that way with a few exceptions ever since.
one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.
i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.

In my case, my father who has declined mentally and was never a jw, needed help. My mother is a JW and has two of our sisters in the org to help her. But guess what? One refused along with her husband because the house had rats - that was too dangerous for their health - and they felt they had already done enough clearing out the front yard a few years ago. Plus they blamed her and my dad and felt that they should do it all alone. The other sister showed up occasionally during the almost year it took to make it safe for the parents to live in the house.
Probably if it was just my self righteous mom, it would have been left to the sisters who claimed to be the better people because they were jw's.
Afterwards, when the house was cleaned up of rats and piles of crap and old food, they came in like they were the saviors. I bet they patted themselves on the back for "saving" her from the wicked influence of the "good samaritans"

Court documents reveal Watchtower's tactics in Montana child abuse case
by LevelThePlayingField inthere were numerous objections and claims that watchtower lawyers made to try and get out of being held responsible for their negligence and malice.
here’s the juicy ones:.
montana is a mandatory reporting state, but watchtower lawyers claimed that the law for reporting abuse only applies to “individuals” and they are “corporations”.

They seem to forget this Romans 13:4
for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
They are constantly against the authority that God has put in place according to the bible. Why don't they follow this? Hypocrites. -

Those awkward magazines
by Addison0998 ini’m sure we all remember those really weird, awkward magazines we were expected to place in service.
and it was before we are had the website or the thing on the back to fall back on.
imagine being a 12 year old girl, and having to place magazines on god’s view of pornography, sex, homosexuality.

I was out with a group. One young teen girl pulled out the latest on "Menses". She rolled her eyes and said "yes, this is the magazine we have to place. I hope it isn't a man" And then she laughed in a smirking tone. Eventually she went to college and left the religion.

There are quite a few movies and tv shows that I've seen discussed on this forum, that reflect the JW culture and teachings. Like "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" , the Star Trek "Borgs". But I was thinking about certain episodes or portions of movies etc. that reflect specific aspects of being or growing up a JW.
I thought of an early episode of Star Trek called "Miri"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_Pz-w5-2A4
Captain Kirk, Spock and McCoy (along with the infamous red shirted security guy) investigate a planet that only has children living on it. The adult population has been wiped out by a virus of the their own making. It was supposed to extend their life (or maybe never die) but instead it killed all the adults. What is left is all of the children that don't seem to age. They also remain childlike. But there are also creatures that appear from time to time, covered in scabs and are violent that attack the children. Only a few older children sort of connect these creatures with past friends. Kirk and the crew find out that when the children hit puberty (after a hundred years? can't remember) then the virus attacks them, causing them to age rapidly, become covered in scabs and turn violent. Then die.
The girl Miri, because she falls for Kirk, hits puberty and becomes the example that helps the other children to accept help from the enterprise.
I relate to this because my mother, to this day, is still a child. The idea of never growing old is what got her started in this religion. It pushed away the need to look ahead for old age and it's problems. One day in her 50's, she told me she had some "disease" in her eyes. She was panicky. Turns out it was just the result of aging and her needing glasses. Most people in the real world, realize that. Old age and death, were never a possibility. With the WT's "new" teachings, she became very depressed at the thought of her death. A really new thought for her.
Do you remember, or did you have the assembly experience of a pioneer sister, who suddenly found her teeth breaking apart and needing funds? She had no idea that aging and/or poor dental care brought about this. It was a complete surprise to her.
But I also have found that being raised in this kind of "blissful" ignorance, has had it's affect on me too. Although it wasn't that I thought I was going to make it into the New Order, but that I would be killed off before I was 20. I never thought I would be this old and I didn't know of some of the effects of aging either or contemplated retirement. I also didn't protect my health, which is going to probably going to kill me earlier rather than later.
I'm sure there is many more examples. Please share if you have any.

The use of color in this vid, clearly connects what is evil = purple, and what is violent = browns.
The snake is purple, sparlock is purple, the poster for University, the scenes where both children are tempted, let's not forget SATAN and by chance (really?) Sophia is dressed in purple.
The ones that have turned their back on Jehovah are all violent killers and are in brown. So is Caleb's fantasy army guy. Also rather interesting, what color are the angels bathed in = golden browns.
In the scene where the poster is, the family drives by it. In the far away shot, I got the impression (because of the big dark eyes) of a rather creepy skull face. There is some fake writing at the top of the poster that seems like it says N n sjskdf vs Hydaeydg but implies University because of the faintness of it. Also looks like Swedish and I know it doesn't really say anything.
The WT is trying to add in humor in these terrible little cartoons. Like with the one on Noah's ark with everyone dying because they played on a handheld game instead of listening - haha that was funny. Now they have a sharp nosed teacher and a kid with cheeto powder around his mouth and gaps in his teeth. Hahaha aren't they comical?
And if there are thousands of Angels watching what you are doing right, then won't a child feel frightened and doomed when they (being children) do something wrong? Surely the angels will tell God.
And the picture of "God" silently and without even hint of body in the clouds, watching, is kind of creepy too. At least Jesus has a smile but God - faceless and emotionless.

Today's Watchtower Study Article - 100% Double-Speak
by The Fall Guy in1) throughout the whole article jw's were being told not to believe or pass on everything they hear, but to examine the information to prove whether it was true or not.. 2) throughout the whole article jw's were being told not to listen to or look into any information or challenges which sounded negative about the org.. mind-numbed jw's will be leaving their kh's today wondering, "do i try and prove to myself and others that that what has been said is definitely a lie, (1 timothy 4:1; 1 peter 3:15;1 john 4:1) or do i totally ignore it and believe everything the org tells me is true?
" (proverbs 14:15).
cult-training in full flow..

20+ years ago, they warned JW's about the Dateline show on Child Sexual Abuse in the congregations. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to watch it. I called up an elder and asked if it was true. He said You don't think Holy Spirit will allow that do you?
I wonder if they will warn them again thru the elders. If some JW's have watched the show on Scientology, they will be bound to watch it believing there will be errors. Even if they don't believe it at the time they watch it, they will remember it. I remembered Dateline and it was part of the evidence against the WT, that helped me decide to investigate the WT's teachings.
So hopefully, this will do a lot of good, if not now but also in the future.
